Geddes, N.Y. — The last Saturday of the Fair often goes down as the largest in the year’s attendance logs and the most lucrative for the vendors. Not this year. The on-and-off rainstorms shrunk those enormous crowds. Still, 48,426 dealt with the finicky weather. When it poured, they moved inside. When the rain stopped, they went outside and dodged puddles. The Eatery was full much of the day, the busiest it’s been in 2024.Today’s MenuI’m at the Fair every day and night, and hey, a guy’s gotta eat (and drink). Amazon Fresh in Logan Circle by Ted Eytan licensed under Creative Commons. Chicago considers opening public grocery stores in food deserts. States are increasingly overriding city efforts to reduce driving. Effective climate policies combine measures like carbon pricing and cap-and-trade. Chicago could open its own grocery chain: Chicago is considering opening three groceries to support neighborhoods where national chains have recently shut their doors. Whatever we may think about our own Bay Area restaurant scene, it’s always fun to see someone else’s perspective on what comprises a “San Francisco” restaurant. The food at Blue Hour is made with high-quality ingredients and a considerable amount of care. The star of the show is undoubtedly the Cwunch Wap Supweme, with its spiced beef and assorted taco-ish fillings—diced tomato, iceberg lettuce, shredded cheese, homemade queso, sour cream—layered above and below a crisp tostada round, then wrapped up inside an oversized soft tortilla.
