MISSION DISTRICT — Beloved Cafe, known for its vegan menu of fresh juices, “superfood” smoothies, grain bowls, and more, closed on Sunday, August 18, per the San Francisco Chronicle. Two employees bought the business and a fundraiser has been launched to support the staff and help keep the doors open.
RUSSIAN HILL — A tipster wrote in with the news that Taco Rouge, chef Daniel Tellez’s Polk Street spot for tacos by day and music at night, has closed. (The restaurant is listed as permanently closed on Google.) Equal parts casual cantina and hotspot for “hip hop honky tonk” line dancing, Taco Rouge was also known for its tacos árabes, a Pueblan specialty.
RICHMOND DISTRICT — Kirin Chinese Restaurant, which first opened in 1999, has closed, per SFGATE. The Geary Boulevard spot was known for its Cantonese fare, not the least of which included winter melon soup served in a hollowed-out melon; fried shrimp heads; and rainbow salad. The restaurant is listed for sale for $99,000; per the listing, the owner is “ready to retire.”
OAKLAND — First Edition cocktail bar, known for its comic book theme and frequent dance parties, will close at the end of September, per East Bay Nosh. The bar owners made the announcement on Instagram, writing, “Oakland, you are amazing. Your resilience and community spirit have carried us through a roller coaster of times.” No specific reason for the closure was given, though the bar hinted at “new adventures.”
