IRON RIVER, Mich. (WLUC) – Kentucky Fried Chicken has reopened along US-2 in Iron River.
A line stretched from the entrance to the back of the newly remodeled Kentucky Fried Chicken this morning. People from across Iron County came early for the first chance to get food from the fast-food restaurant.
Iron River Resident Bonnie Baldwin says she’s excited to see KFC’s return.
“Oh, heck, I’m going to get a little bit of everything,” Baldwin said. “Probably a bucket of chicken and a chicken bowl, and a potpie for my husband. We welcome the new owners, we’re happy they’re back and we wish them the best of luck.”
Lucky Dining, owners of fast-food locations across Michigan, announced the store would be re-opening late last year.
Iron County Economic Chamber Alliance Executive Director Zach Hautala says KFC is a valuable member of the business community.
“KFC’s been a staple in Iron County and Iron River for a long time, except for the last four or five years where the previous owners were unable to sell the franchise, so the building sat vacant for a while,” Hautala said. “But this is a great addition again, back to the Iron County and Iron River business communities.”
Lucky Dining Director of Operations Aaron Humphrey says the business is committed to continuing to serve the Iron River community.
“You know, we are a small family-owned company as well, so I think that’s very important,” Humphrey said. “We’re all hands on in our restaurants, working with the people, working with the community, so to kind of pass that torch means a lot to us, and we are very excited about it.”
The KFC already has almost 30 employees and could bring in an additional 10.
