DAYTON, Ky. (WXIX) – The food pantry at Cornerstone Christian Church is running low.
Jennifer Poe, who runs the pantry, said the pantry walls are usually stacked five-foot across with food – now it’s down to two feet. She said this puts their ability to feed families at risk because they don’t have the food.
“Right now we can only offer cereal, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce and canned corn,” Poe said.
The pantry serves up to 50 families a week. She said it needs more monetary donations due to the number of families it serves.
“We only get about $50 to $100 a month,” Poe said. “We get donations through our food bank and free store, but we don’t have anybody who donates money so we can’t purchase much.”
Poe said monetary donations would help the pantry buy vegetables and other foods to make actual full meals.
“Right now we’re in need of non-perishables,” Poe said. “That is more box food, like box cereal. We need cereal, potatoes, macaroni and cheese, pancake mix and syrup.”
The food bank began operating in November 2023. Poe said its stressful working to keep the community fed.
“It’s a 24-hour job,” Poe said. “As soon as I get up, I start wondering what I’m going to get and where am I going to get it from.”
Monetary donations can be made by calling the church at 859-431-7711 or calling Poe at 859-823-9073.
