Almost a year after the announcement that Levi Goode, restaurateur and head of Goode Company Restaurants, was planning to open two stand-alone concepts, the opening date for Credence and its speakeasy Sidebar is now set for Tuesday, August 20. Both are located at 9757 Katy Freeway, on the ground level of The McKinley, a luxury high-rise residence in Memorial City.
Goode’s father started the family’s restaurant empire in 1977 from a love of barbecue, Texas and the Gulf Coast. Goode says he’s channeling that same love for Texas cuisine along with inspiration from his travels and his experiences as a chef into his long-awaited concepts.

Credence’s menu will feature regional American fare that leans heavily on South Texas live-fire cooking. Diners can expect dishes such as a fire-roasted seafood tower, Sweetwater Whole Duck and hearth-cooked Wild Gulf Snapper served with trout roe. Classic cocktails such as the tequila-based Paloma and a take on a Negroni will be paired with the rustic-yet-refined menu.

Its “secret sister”, Sidebar, will be a more intimate and exclusive affair. The reservation-only restaurant and cocktail bar will feature specialty cocktails such as a classic gin Martini served with a sidecar and garnishes, a seasonal Pimm’s Cup and reworked Old Fashioneds and Manhattans. The food menu can be described as upscale classic American fare, featuring dry-aged steaks and oysters topped with caviar.

Influences from Goode’s travels across Europe and other parts of the world are reflected throughout. Both spaces were designed in partnership with design firm Gensler and bridges classical European architecture – arches, tilework, and its eye-catching double-barrel vaulted ceilings – with a collection of artwork curated by Weingarten Art Group. In Credence, artworks by Kourtney Roy depict the nostalgic romance of Southwest Texas. In Sidebar, photographs by Patty Carroll explore women and domesticity. Earthy, warm tones keep the emphasis on the fine details of the furnishings and light fixtures, as well as on the food.
Expressing his excitement for his passion project, Goode says, “I’m thrilled to see Credence and Sidebar come to life. Years of work, heart and creativity have aligned to bring us to this moment. My hope is that both Credence and Sidebar serve as local havens where people can come together and enjoy a thoughtful meal, a handmade cocktail and a good time. We’re excited to continue to serve the Memorial area of Houston, which has been so good to us.”
Credence and Sidebar joins other recently opened restaurants in Memorial such as, Bar Bludorn, Haywire and Pit Room, making the area a worthy dining destination.
While the restaurants will open to the public starting on August 20, reservations will be available for both Credence and Sidebar via OpenTable starting on Thursday, August 8.
