PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Hatch green chile season is officially upon us, and Fry’s Food Stores is celebrating by roasting this delicious pepper at some Valley locations on Saturday!
The chiles are grown on local farms in the Hatch Valley of southwestern New Mexico’s Rio Grande region. In just a day, the peppers are picked, packed and shipped to Fry’s stores in as little as 24 hours after harvest. The fresh Private Selection™ Hatch Chiles are now available for a limited time at all Fry’s Food Stores.
Here are the Arizona locations that will be roasting chiles outside on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.:
- 1300 S Watson Rd, Buckeye
- 20797 N John Wayne Pkwy, Maricopa
- 16400 W Pat Tillman Blvd, Surprise
- 25401 N Lake Pleasant Pkwy, Peoria
- 2115 Highway 60 #200, Miami
- 6470 S Higley Rd, Gilbert
- 2858 N Pinal Ave, Casa Grande
- 150 E Old West Hwy, Apache Junction
- 15950 S Rancho Sahuarita Blvd, Sahuarita
- 12100 N Thornydale Rd, Marana
- 1795 W Valencia Rd, Tucson
There’s so many different ways to enjoy these chiles, but many people enjoy using them in salsas, pork, enchiladas, burgers, chile rellenos and more!
To roast chiles at home, Fry’s recommends following these instructions:
- Grill: Place the chiles directly onto a hot grill. When the bottoms begin to turn black, charred or blistered, use tongs to turn the chiles over and repeat on the other side.
- Stovetop: Hold chiles over your stove’s gas flame with a long fork or tongs while roasting on all sides.
- Oven: Place chiles under the broiler. When they blacken, turn chiles over and roast the other side.
If you can’t make it this weekend, no worries! Fry’s will be roasting chiles every weekend until September 14.
