PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WMBF) – The search is on for a stolen food trailer that a South Strand community church uses to feed thousands of hungry people each year.
The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office said No Boundaries International South Carolina CEO Jeffrey Herwig reported the trailer missing on Wednesday morning.
Herwig said the trailer was stolen around 5 a.m. but his surveillance camera couldn’t catch the theft due to the angle of the camera view.
Deputies said they used flock cameras to search for the trailer and said it was last seen going northbound on Trace Drive and U.S. 17 at 5:17 a.m. in Pawleys Island.
The trailer and equipment are valued at over $45,000.
Herwig and his wife Michele said they use the trailer to feed those who are hungry and last year they gave away 8,000 meals. This year, they were on track to double the number.
Despite having the trailer stolen, Herwig said volunteers still showed up to serve over 150 meals on Wednesday.
Herwig provided photos of the trailer which has detailed artwork and the logo of No Boundaries International. The trailer has South Carolina tags that read 67266PT.
Anyone with information about the stolen vehicle is asked to contact the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.
