The Biloxi location of Lucy’s Retired Surfer Bar is closed for good after five years in business, the restaurant announced in a Facebook post Monday.
Located on along U.S. 90, Lucy’s was situated in a two-story raised building just steps away from the water. It was one of several dining spots along “Restaurant Row,” a small stretch of the highway dotted with eateries with direct beach access. The restaurants, including The Reef and Shaggy’s, are popular among tourists.
Lucy’s, whose flagship restaurant just underwent a multi-million dollar expansion in the New Orleans Warehouse District, opened in Biloxi just before summer 2019. The bright colors, coastal menu and cocktail options were a big hit, as were the beachfront events like live music and karaoke.
But Lucy’s was dealt a rough hand. First, it was the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020. Later that year, Hurricane Zeta significantly damaged the building that had to repaired before it could reopen to the public.
Lucy’s rebounded with trivia, drink specials, live entertainment and ladies night, but in the end, the decision was made to close permanently. In their farewell to Biloxi, the restaurant asked customers to “do good and be good.”
“Thank you so much to our incredible staff and loyal guests, you saw us through the ups and downs of pandemics, hurricane seasons, and the craziest of weeks – we couldn’t have done it without you!” the Facebook post says. “We have loved being part of the wonderful Gulf Coast community and will miss you all immensely!”
The building is now for sale and is listed for more than $3 million. A lease option is also available. All fixtures, furniture and equipment are included in the list price.
