CLEVELAND, Ohio — Anyone hungry for hush puppies and fried fish? Well, if not, you will be soon because Arthur Treacher’s Fish & Chips is expanding in Northeast Ohio.
Arthur Treacher’s fast-food seafood restaurant, which got its start in Columbus and once boasted more than 800 locations worldwide in the 1970s and ‘80s, is a shell of its former self, down to just two locally owned locations in Cuyahoga Falls and Garfield Heights. But it will open third location in Cleveland Heights before the end of the year and may add a fourth soon after that.
“We are not done,” Christian Burden, the general manager at the Cuyahoga Falls location, said to cleveland.com of the expansion.
The Cleveland Heights location at 13216 Cedar Road, which was the site of an old-school Arthur Treacher’s from the 1970s-1990s. “Arthur Treacher’s is such a nostalgic brand,” Burden added. “[The owners] are committed to bringing this brand back.”
Arthur Treacher’s is known for its fish & chips, fried chicken, clam chowder, hush puppies and other comfort food favorites.
Arthur Treacher’s was founded in 1969 in Columbus, hitting its peak in the 1970s with more than 800 locations. The chain went bankrupt in the early ‘80s. Ben Vittoria previously operated the Garfield Heights and Cuyahoga Falls shops before retiring in 2021. The remaining two locations were acquired locally by new ownership.
