As shown in the recent Barbie movie, the iconic doll has fans of all ages. Now, they can visit a new pop-up tailored just for them. The Malibu Barbie Café is opening on August 16 at Junction HTX on 8200 Washington Avenue. The pop-up runs Wednesdays through Sundays until October 27. It’s a collaboration between Mattel and Bucket Listers, the company that’s been behind other fun pop-ups such as The Golden Girls Kitchen and Family Guy Experience, which recently made a stop in Houston.
“We are delighted to announce the opening of Malibu Barbie Café in Houston, bringing a truly unique experience that celebrates the Barbie brand and all she represents to the city.” said Julie Freeland, Vice President of Global Location Based Entertainment, Mattel, via a press release. “At Mattel we are always looking for exciting, new ways to bring the Barbie experience to life. From the décor to the menu, every detail has been thoughtfully designed to celebrate the iconic Barbie style.”

The Malibu Barbie Café will offer a roller rink and pop-up restaurant modeled after the groovy California surf scene of the 1970s. Roller skate rentals are $1, and proceeds from these will go to Girls INC., a charity that provides mentoring and other services to help girls become successful adults. Kids must be at least 5 years old to skate.
The pop-up will also offer exclusive merchandise and special events such as cupcake decorating classes and paint parties. On Saturdays, Malibu Barbie Café is hosting Pink Disco Skate Nights for those 21 and up.
Chef Becky Brown, a Master Chef finalist and winner on Food Network’s “Chopped”, created the casual menu, which includes dishes such as Pacific Paradise Pancakes, West Coast Wave Salad, Tubular Tenders and Anything is Possible Sundae. To drink, grown-ups can indulge in the Think Pink Margarita or the Cali Collins. Restaurant seat reservations start at $25 and include a credit for $10 on food and $5 towards merchandise. (There is no reservation fee for kids 2 and under.)

“Bucket Listers is honored to continue partnering with Mattel, bringing Malibu Barbie Café down to Houston after sold-out runs across the country,” said Derek Berry, President of Bucket Listers. “Barbie has proven to be one of history’s ultimate icons. It means so much for us to bring exclusive experiences like this to life for our community. I cannot wait for the city to see what we have in store.”
