Thirteen-year-old Ivey Tapp hosted her annual food drive benefitting Grace Community Ministries (GCM) in place of presents for her birthday. She has been doing the food drive since she was 1 year old.”It’s a big part of my life, and I just love it,” Tapp said. With the help of volunteers and the City of Greer’s Fire Department, they brought all the donations into GCM in 12 minutes. “I’ve been doing it since I was one, and now [I’m} 13,” Tapp said. “So, we’ve had some practice.”Ivey plans the drive herself, even creating spreadsheets to organize everything, but it is a whole community effort to raise the money and gather the donations. “We have drop-off points, and we had 40 others this year,” Tapp said. “So that just shows how much the community really puts in.” She also said Greer residents and businesses will start to donate up to a year in advance. All of this funding and food is critical for GCM. A spokesperson for GCM said this is the biggest food drive for the organization. “It’s really important for us to have this come in because it just is an abundance that we didn’t have before,” Emilee West said.
